Water Damage In Your Home
When you have a crawl space under your Baxter Village home, water can enter into from various sources. These include plumbing leaks, groundwater, and heavy rain. While water itself might not cause problems outside of a wet crawl space, moisture which evaporates from that water can cause problems. Mold, wood rot, high electric bills, and mildew are all possible from humidity in your crawl space.
A small crack in your foundation can be the culprit to your crawl space moisture as well. However, no matter what the situation is, you should get it taken care of a soon as you can to avoid additional water damage to your Baxter Village home. Our SERVPRO staff is always standing by to assist you with an emergency like this, and we have the equipment to be able to get into tighter spaces as well.
Since working in water-damaged crawl spaces can be a challenge due to small access doors which makes equipment challenging to pass through, we have to work carefully. Even if the door is large enough to pass equipment through, the space itself can lack adequate room for a dehumidifier to stand upright. We may need to remove insulation to help us work.
SERVPRO staff also checks for electrical hazards which may be present and ensure that electrical circuits going under your home are deactivated. The water in crawl spaces is usually black or gray because of dirt floors, so we also wear appropriate safety equipment.
We can then remove the standing water from the crawl space. Finding the lowest point, we use a submersible pump to get rid of the majority of the water. Once it is removed, we then figure out the best way to dry out the structural parts of your floor. We block off foundation vents unless we can use an open drying system.
If possible, we place dehumidifiers and air movers in the crawl space to finish the drying. We might need to remove a section of the floor or other methods if they do not fit. We also tent the area off to create a smaller drying area.
We can use a flex hose as a duct if our equipment does not fit so air can be moved from dehumidifiers into the crawl space. A piece of light gauge sheet metal can be cut to fit the outlet of the dehumidifier to vent dry air into spaces which are small.
